gritAnimal is our animal handling application that supports workflows around animal facilities and helps you plan future in vivo studies efficiently.
It ensures that all the relevant data about the animals are stored in the same database and enables an order flow from scientist to animal facility and subsequent return of relevant animal information to the scientist. gritAnimal also supports the scientists in performing the required scoring of the animals after use.
gritAnimal supports veterinarians in efficiently utilising animal facilities' capacity and maintaining and enforcing the licenses received from the authorities.
The application can automatically create the yearly animal use report according to EU regulations, which can be a very tedious process if handled manually.
“grit42 and Zealand Pharma have, for many years, collaborated to effectively report Zealand Pharma’s animal use to the authorities.
Recently, we have been able to further increase our efficiency with the addition of a new overview module that has simplified our ability to track how many rodents we have in our facilities and to plan future study capacity.”

Principal Scientist, Zealand Pharma
Having all your information about research animals in gritAnimal allows you to optimize the workflows that often suffer under disintegrated systems. With an easy way to store, manage, and export animal data, in vivo studies can be run more efficiently.
With the animal facility capacity module, you also get the extra benefit of an easy overview of existing and planning of future in vivo studies. This ensures you get the most out of your animal facilities and move forward with your projects as quickly as possible.
Capacity planning
License and quota management
Animal ordering with pre-defined (default) parameters
Order handling by animal facility
Print cage cards
Easy, supported scoring according to EU rules
Automatic use report generation
All information about research animals is data that needs to be managed and structured.
The different characteristics of the individual animals – like strain, sex, and weight – can impact the experiment and are essential pieces of information to support the in vivo scientists in interpreting their experiments.
The information about the animals – and the entire animal order flow from scientist to animal facility – is often handled and later stored in Word order forms, Excel, or even in emails.
Without a dedicated animal application, scientists must merge all the information about the animals they receive from the different tools with the scientific results to factor them into their interpretations.
Words of wisdom shared by our esteemed customers, brilliant collaborators, and valued partners.
grit42 has given our project team access to enterprise level software tools for data management, archiving and analysis which are uniquely able to work with discovery, clinical and clinical data sets in an interoperable environment.
They are a great company and we are very proud to collaborate with them to try and improve the process of antibiotic drug discovery through the implementation of FAIR data management and tools.
Grit42 is providing the IMI ERA4TB project with innovative, flexible data management solutions that greatly facilitate the handling of the variety of complex drug discovery and development datasets needed to support world-class TB research.
Based on our experience and the ability to organize all data types in a consistent fashion, this platform can be a key tool for any researcher to address key scientific questions within the areas of drug development and translational research activities.
As our research in Nucleic acid-based medicine involves data generation from biological and in silico experiments, both from several different sources, it is of utmost importance that our data consolidation process is streamlined and that the stored data is easily accessible, which is what we get with grit42.
We see a great potential in applying state-of-the-art data management and data integration to leverage our R&D activities and improve our decision making. To strengthen these capabilities, we selected grit42 as our strategic software partner.
For identification of phenotypes of mutants, we use the high-throughput phenotypic microarrays from OmniLog®. The Growth Curves app from grit42 offers a nice and interactive way to analyse this data as well as making our analysis workflow 15 times faster!
