How to create and edit a SAR table

Creating a SAR and adding the relevant compounds and assay results

Create a new SAR table

This is actually very simple. You create a new empty SAR table and then add the compounds and result columns you want to see. That’s it!

Then you can also add scatter plots where you can see if the results correlate and finally you can export the dataset for further analysis in other external tools.

Building a new SAR table:

  1. Go to the SAR menu item
  2. In the top right corner click the “+” Create SAR Table button

  1. In the appearing form add a relevant name and select the responsible user
  2. The newly created - empty - SAR table will open
  3. Click the “Edit SAR” pencil and choose “Select Variants”* or “Select Compounds”

Adding compounds:

  1. Click on a compound on the left hand side list “Select from available compounds” and the compound will be added to the right hand side list “Selected compounds”
  2. OR select that compounds you want to add by clicking the select box and then click the “Add selected” button to add all selected at the same time
  3. Click “Done” to return to the SAR table

If you want to add specific compound IDs or maybe create a SAR table based on a list of compounds then you can use the filter to locate the relevant compounds. Below is shown how you find a list of compounds. If you need other filter tricks then please go to the “Search / Filter compound information” section of this manual.

Filter by list of compounds:

  1. Click on the “Filters” icon on the top right corner of the table

  1. In the appearing filter window select the column to use for the filter (below “Grit42 Compound ID”) and the comparator (in list).

  1. Copy a list of Grit42 Compound ID’s to the clipboard from excel, an email or where you have it and paste the list into the value part of the filter.

Adding variants:*

  1. Click on the relevant Setup/Variant in the left hand side list.
The setup/variants listed are those that have a Compound type parameter in their Result setup that have hypothesis role set as “Subject”. There also has to be experiments with status Published available for the variant to be listed.
  2. In the appearing window select the parameter (the result) you want to display in the SAR table.
  3. Select the Calculation method => what to do if the same compound has been tested more than once in the setup.
  4. Click “Save”

*What are Variants: The Setups can be created with properties like “Species”. If a special “variant” of the Setup is used in an experiment where the species = mouse then the system will understand that this variant (the data) cannot be mixed with another variant where species=rat. In other words: IF the database contains experiments where certain properties are set differently they can/will be added to the SAR table as separate columns.

Edit/Change a SAR table

To add more compounds or results you simply go back to the “Adding compounds” and “Adding variants” part and go through the same steps.

If you want to remove compounds or results you also go through the same steps but instead of adding more you remove them from the “Selected…” lists.

Export the SAR table data

  1. Click the Export icon on the top right of the tools bar

  1. In the appearing window the user can adjust what columns to include in the export by clicking the tools icon and select/deselect the relevant columns
  2. Click “Download data” and select the desired format

Add a scatter plot

  1. Click the “Plots” tab in the top left corner of the SAR table

  1. Click the “New plot” button

  1. In the new appearing scatter plot click the “Plot settings” button and select what data (column) from the SAR table to use as X and Y axis and the scale you want to use on the axis.

  1. Add another scatter plot by repeating step 2) and 3)
